That Time of Year Again

It is that time again, the time of year I approach the end of a contract, and I face the dilemma of what to do. I am finishing the third year at the same academy (something that is rather rare I think) and am faced with the question: stay? Go? Korea? Japan? Somewhere else? Return to the States?

Ugh. I hate this time. I admit the idea of returning to the USA is more appealing that it has been for, oh...let's say eight years. But my last attempt, back in the fall of 2005, was a disaster. I couldn't find a good job, and I burned through my savings in three months, leaving me in a rather desperate situation (I went days without much food, and walked to and from the job I did have because I didn't have enough money for the bus or subway...in Chicago in November and December. Five miles each way. I do NOT want to live through another time like that.)

I am sure I could stay at my current school, as it is a fairly comfortable choice, and I feel pretty good about working here. The problems I've had have been minor, and I think they are happy to have me. I could look elsewhere in Korea, or look elsewhere in Asia. I have always thought about working in Japan, but the economic considerations might persuade me against that. From what I can see, it would be more difficult to save as much money as I have been able to in Korea. I've considered working somewhere in the Americas (Mexico, or Central or South America) but the money is not great there. There is very good money to be made working in the Middle East, but other considerations put that idea out of the realm of possibility. I couldn't deal with living anywhere over there.

Any suggestions would be welcome. Or lottery tickets.

Well...enough of my whining. Have a Happy New Year everyone!!
